If you’re a busy entrepreneur, read this:

I hate the word “busy”.

Why?

Well at this point it’s become worthless and lost its meaning.

You see everyone these days claims to be busy.

Everyone.

Yet the vast vast majority of people aren’t - and the only way they recognise just how unbusy they are is when reality forces them to take on more responsibility and be more busy.

And then all of a sudden, they realise how much they were messing about beforehand.

You only feel busy because you stretch out your current responsibilities to fill your day and use all your time - which is only natural and does not necessarily create a problem in itself.

But the problem with this is that most people use this false sense of busyness as an excuse to not do certain things (which not doing these things is a major reason why you’re busy).

Yet if life threw more at you, you would be able to find time for those added responsibilities and within a few weeks you would have acclimatised to your new level of “busyness”.

What I’m saying here is that busyness is bullshit - you can always be more and more busy.

And inevitably you will be.

Life and business will always throw more responsibilities and tasks your way in a never-ending cycle.

The problem is that when you get “busy” you cut out what gives you energy - movement, sleep, good nutrition, meditation, prioritisation, scheduling, focus - to make time for the things you’re so busy doing.

The paradox is that by doing this, you end up with not enough energy to rise to your “busyness” and you feel overwhelmed, stressed, that you can’t get shit down and are on a hamster wheel that never ends, eventually resulting in burn out.

In reality the solution when you are “busy” is to double down on what gives you energy so that you have enough to meet your higher demands and as a result, you’re forced to be more productive, more structured, more organised, more disciplined and in fact, less busy.

It’s only logical, but most people never take the time to think about it - if you cut your energy inputs (what gives you energy), your potential energy output is also cut, but yet if you’re “busy”, this obviously creates problems.

So what’s the solution?

Well on one level it’s to not cut your energy inputs when your level of energy demanded is increased.

But on a deeper level it’s that you need to make certain things - like your energy inputs, scheduling your day, following systems, the right behavioural habits, focus, and prioritisation - non-negotiable, so that no matter how busy you are you have to necessary energy to not only meet your responsibilities but to do them damn well.

Busyness is really just a lack of focus, prioritisation, structure and energy.

So prioritise them.

Make them non-negotiable and your minimum baseline standard.

Become that person who does those things - no matter what.

And you’ll watch your “busyness” vanish.
