What to do if you don’t know what to do
Jul 16, 2024Marcus Aurelius said, “You can also commit an injustice by doing nothing”.
If you don’t know who Marcus Aurelius is, google him and buy the book he wrote 2000 years ago called “Meditations” - it might just change your life.
Anyway, back to the quote…
What exactly did Aurelius mean that you can commit an injustice by doing nothing?
I believe there are 2 ways you can take it.
-
You commit an injustice to humanity if you watch something bad, eg. a crime, go down and do nothing.
-
You commit an injustice to yourself if you don’t take action
The first way is a conversation for another day, I’d rather not get into the morals and ethics of modern society.
But the second way… oh the second way, that’s something that should hit you deep like a knife to the heart.
We’ve all been there.
We’ve all had a big revenue goal we wanted to chase, a problem in our business that needed solved or a system that needed to be built but had no clue where to start.
And so you did… you did nothing.
You committed an injustice to yourself - after all, anything that moves you toward your goals is a thing that will improve your life and give you meaning in the day-to-day and by doing nothing, you’re going against that thing you so badly want. By doing nothing you do the wrong thing.
Doing is a necessity for self-respect, progress and fulfillment.
Without doing there is no progress, there is no building of self-respect and there is no fulfillment.
But I get it… if you don’t know what you need to do to take the next step toward your goals, solve your problems or fix your bottlenecks, how on earth are you meant to take it?
Surely it’s impossible to do if you don’t know what to do?
Well, no.
We live in an age of endless information. Anything and everything you need to know can be found online - whether it’s free on YouTube, in a paid course or through coaching. It’s out there.
And honestly, everything you need is out there on YouTube for free. There’s nothing you’ll find in any course which isn’t already on the internet.
The real reason you should invest in courses is to get a clear and specific roadmap of what you need to do so that you don’t have to sift through endless information and spend a few years figuring out what works and what doesn’t. Also, investing money in a course is a good way to keep yourself accountable to following through and getting results. People don’t act on free information - otherwise everyone would be a millionaire.
Anytime I come across a problem I don’t know how to solve or if I’m not sure of the next steps I need to take, I do a quick search on Youtube and watch a few videos.
I’ll implement anything I find and see if it works. If it doesn’t, I go straight to finding someone who knows what they’re doing and pay them - for example, I’ve been trying to grow on Youtube for a while now but I wasn’t getting anywhere.
So 2 months ago I spent $7000 on coaching from someone who knows what they’re doing.
And let’s put it this way - I just hit 10k subscribers last week.
Not knowing is not an excuse for not doing.
The more you act without knowing what to do, the sooner you learn what you need to do.
Whether that’s because you take the slow route and learn through experience or whether you take the faster path and invest in yourself.
The sooner you start doing, the sooner you start progressing.
That’s all for today. Go take action.
