How to become all you could be (a full guide to unf*ck your life)

Nov 28, 2023

There’s no goal more meaningful than the pursuit of becoming everything you could be.

After all, what’s the alternative?

You live a life void of fulfillment and meaning and one day you wake up on your deathbed, and think to yourself “I could’ve been great” but you weren’t.

Because you decided against doing what you knew you needed to do, what you knew was right.

You have 1 life on this earth.

It is your duty not to waste it but to instead use it to its full capacity in the pursuit of your potential.

But to do that, you have to first unf*ck your life.

Step 1: Dopamine Detox

Dopamine is the molecule of pursuit.

It is what drives you to do something.

But the problem is, it doesn’t distinguish between behaviours that improve your life and behaviours that slowly ruin your life and your self-respect.

And since the likes of scrolling social media, watching p*rn, and eating junk food have such a low barrier to entry yet provide such a high amount of dopamine, you become addicted to them.

How many times a day do you just pick up your phone and scroll for no reason, without even knowing you’re doing it?

That’s because of your addiction to the dopamine you get from scrolling social media.

And since these behaviours are so easy to perform and you’re addicted to the dopamine you get from them, your mind will always resort back to them and steer you away from behaviours that improve your life and produce a tonne of dopamine, but require effort.

Luckily, you can fix this.

All you have to do is a dopamine detox.

For the next 7-14 days, limit all your usage of “cheap dopamine” behaviours.

Set app timers on your phone and cut out social media. Stop watching p*rn. Remove the junk food from your house.

If over the next 1 or 2 weeks, you cut these behaviours out, you’ll reset your dopamine pathways and remove your addiction to these behaviours.

It won’t be easy, it’ll be damn tough.

But to make it easier, what you can do is replace the old bad behaviours with new good behaviours that will improve your life.

And that brings us to step 2

Step 2: Prioritise Physical Performance

Your physical performance is one of the easiest but most impactful levers you can pull.

If you improve your physical performance, you’ll improve your mental performance which creates a flywheel effect.

Because if you improve your thoughts, you’ll improve your actions and if you improve your actions, you’ll improve your damn life.

But if your physical performance is suffering, so will your mental performance.

And so your perception of yourself, the world, and what’s possible will be limited.

Your body and your mind are linked in every way.

So if you don’t exercise, if you don’t get enough sleep, if you feed your body with crap and never get any sunlight, you’re going to feel like crap physically and mentally.

Plus if you don’t try and become everything you could be physically, how could all you could be?

But the question comes up of what do you need to do to optimise your physical performance because there’s so much crap out there, where do you start?

Well, there are 4 needle movers that you need to focus on;

• Do something daily to make you sweat.

Lift weights 3-5x a week, run 2x a week, walk every day.

It doesn’t matter, just do something that makes you sweat every single day.

• Sleep.

You need 7-9 hours of high-quality sleep.

So cut out caffeine 10 hours before bed, don’t go on any screens 1 hour before bed, and instead read a book and stick to a consistent sleep schedule

• Nutrition.

Don’t feed your body with crap.

Eat good whole foods and get 1 gram of protein per lb of body weight.

• Sunlight.

Get as much sunlight as possible.

This can be difficult depending on where you are in the world. I live in Northern Ireland so we don’t get much sun but when there is sun, take full advantage of it.

Those 4 needle movers are enough to completely change your physical performance and therefore your mental performance.

But rewiring your dopamine pathways and prioritising your physical performance is almost pointless if you’re not doing it for a reason - which brings us to step 3.

Step 3: Set Your Sights

It’s impossible to unf*ck your life and become everything you could be if you don’t have an idea of what that looks like.

You need a direction to head in otherwise you might spend 6 months, 1 year, or 5 years going down a path only to realise that it wasn’t what you wanted.

And having this direction acts as a filter for your life.

The information you consume, the actions that you take, the places you go and the goals you set can all be ran through this filter

If they align with the direction you want to go in, it’s a yes.

If they don’t align with the direction you want to go in, it’s a no.

It allows you to curate your life around what you want, around the direction you’re heading.

But to do that, you have to know what you want and where you want to go.

There are a tonne of ways you can try to figure this out, but there’s no shortcut to doing it properly.

You have to sit with your thoughts, work through them, and ask yourself what you want, answering honestly and truthfully.

And the best thing you can do is ask yourself 2 questions;

  1. What does your dream life look like

So what does your dream day-to-day life look like from the moment you wake up to the moment you go to sleep.

What is your partner like? do you have kids? What do you do for a living? What habits do you have? What’s your physique like? What’s your house like?

Write about the dream version of every area of your life

And then ask yourself

  1. What impact do you want to make

You can’t create your dream life, something of so much value, without giving value to the world and making an impact.

It’s how you earn the right to live the life you want to live.

And without making an impact, you’re leaving potential on the table.

You can’t be your all if you’re not leaving your mark on the world.

It is your right and your duty to provide value, help others, and make an impact.

So what impact do you want to make? What value do you want to provide?

And how do you want to provide it? Do you want to start a business? Do you want to create content? Do you want to do both?

Whatever your answer, be true to yourself

Because it’s the only way you’ll be able to do step 4 properly.

Step 4: Explore Your Curiosities

Once you figure out what you want in life and the impact you want to make, you have to make an effort to build what will allow you to do that.

The best and the only way to build it is to first explore your curiosities.

It’ll improve how you view the world, the knowledge you have, the experience you have, the impact you can make and it’ll help push you toward becoming everything you could be.

Because you can’t reach your potential if you’re not expanding your knowledge and experience base through what interests you.

So figure it out.

What interests you? What could you spend hours researching and think it was only minutes?

Whatever it is, start diving deep into its world.

Read books, watch Youtube videos, buy courses, and most importantly, build out projects.

Knowledge is great but you will learn so much more about your curiosity and yourself if you take action, build something, and put it out there into the world

Just do whatever you can to follow your curiosities and let yourself pivot.

If you want to go deeper into a certain area, do it.

If you want to leave an area completely because it doesn’t grab you, do it.

This is why I’m such a big fan of the creator business model, it allows and incentivizes you to go deep into your curiosities, share what you learn, making an impact, and providing value.

But it also encourages and requires step 5

Step 5: Chase Mastery Of Self And Craft

There’s no way to unf*ck your life and become all you could be if you don’t chase mastery of both self and craft.

If you don’t chase mastery of yourself, you’ll forever take the path of least resistance, you’ll make excuses, you’ll not do the work that you know you need to do and you’ll forever leave potential untapped.

If you don’t chase mastery of your craft, you’ll never be able to produce work at a high enough quality that will get you the results you want or allow you to make the impact you both want and need to make.

Mastery is a necessity.

It’s an essential part of becoming all you could you could be and living a life you love.

So you need to chase it.

I’ve an entire course specifically curated to helping you master your mind, actions, craft, and performance, click here to check it out

But to master yourself, one of the simplest steps you can follow is to do something every single day that you don’t want to do.

If you don’t want to take an ice bath, take an ice bath.

If you don’t want to wake up early, wake up early.

If you don’t to read, read.

It sounds simple and it is.

But this act of doing something small that you don’t want to do is also the act of you showing your inner bitch that you’re in control, that you’re the boss, that you are the master.

Mastering your craft again is simple.

Explore your curiosities and build a project related to them

Show up every single day and practice, do the work, without fail.

I have a 2-hour mastery formula which can be helpful with this.

Spend 1 hour every day learning the theory of your craft and spend 1 hour every day practicing your craft, applying what you learned.

And through this act of chasing mastery, you’ll start step 6.

Step 6: Pursue Meaning

Meaning is everything.

If you don’t have meaning in life, you have no reason to do the work, to do hard shit, to do what you know you need to do, what is true to you, and what is right

Without meaning you wander mindlessly through life, you feel lost and unfulfilled.

So if you want to unf*ck your life, become everything you could be and make an impact, you need to pursue meaning.

But how do you pursue meaning?

Well, you take on responsibility.

You take on the responsibility of becoming all you could be.

You say to yourself, I want to become the best version of myself, I want to become a statue of mastery and excellence and that is my responsibility.

There’s no greater responsibility than the pursuit of your potential.

And in that pursuit, you have to, like we went over earlier, make an impact.

So to find meaning in life, you have to take on the responsibility of 2 things

  1. The pursuit of becoming everything you could be

  2. Making an impact and providing value to the world

Now this entire newsletter has been about becoming everything you could be, but how do you impact and provide value?

Well, that’s step 7.

Step 7: Build A Vehicle That Let’s You Make Your Mark

Everything we’ve covered so far is pretty simple.

As always, simple doesn’t equal easy.

It’s tough.

It’s hard.

And you’ll want to quit.

But it’s worth it.

Especially when you have a vehicle that facilitates your pursuit of potential and requires you to make an impact and in the process leave your mark.

Now what vehicle is that?

Well, there are tonnes out there you could go for.

But there’s only 1 vehicle that anybody can start, anybody can succeed at, and actually requires you to do everything we’ve discussed so far to succeed.

And that is the creator business model.

All you need is a laptop and an internet connection.

You do everything we’ve discussed so far and you share what you learn in the form of content helping the world for free, making an impact and providing value.

And then you package together all your knowledge around a specific problem into a course and sell it.

This way, those who have that problem can buy your course, solve their problem in a fast, efficient, and effective way without having to go through any trial and error and you get paid.

And those who don’t want to buy your course still get free value in the form of your content.

It’s a win-win.

It requires you to pursue your potential to get sufficient knowledge, ideas, and experiences to share so that you can make an impact, provide value and live a life you fucking love.

There is no better vehicle for becoming all you could be than a vehicle that requires you to pursue all you could be to succeed.
